Session 6 - Owning IT: An In-House DR Project Case Study
In early 2015, the Alma College ITS Department presented a disaster recovery (DR) project proposal to college administration. The plan leveraged resources unique to Alma’s technical environment enabling the recovery of critical systems and services offsite in the event of a disaster at the primary data-center.  As work began, it became clear these resources could be leveraged to provide much more than just disaster recovery without additional capital investment.

We will be presenting an overview of our DR project, including the solutions considered, the design ultimately selected, and various ways the project evolved beyond its initial scope.  By using our DR initiative as a case study, we hope to inspire others to think creatively about ways to leverage their unique campus resources to solve IT challenges, and to encourage in-house ownership of project design and outcomes.
